DEI Statement

Concilio was founded to serve communities which traditionally did not have a voice in the halls of government, businesses, public safety, justice and other institutions; did not have opportunities to live and thrive in safe and nurturing environments; did not have equal and full access to educational, healthcare and social services. The principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to which many organizations are now turning their attention have been the cornerstone of our agency’s commitment to our employees, the consumers we serve, and the community programs we support.

Our employment policies, programs and practices reflect and support our agency’s goals to:

  • Foster and sustain an inclusive, open, non-judgmental work environment where our unique identities; physical attributes; life experiences and perspectives; cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds; familial
    relationships and differences are respected, welcomed, and celebrated.
  • Retain, professionally develop, fully engage, and reward a diverse, talented workforce that represents the communities and populations we serve.
  • Provide an open-door policy to promote an environment of creativity and sharing of ideas, to appreciate each other’s unique humanity, and resolve differences in a productive, respectful manner.

Policies, programs, and practices which promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Concilio include but are not limited to:

  • An expansive list of ‘protected classes’ in our Non-Discrimination, No Harassment and No Bullying policies which reflects the diversity of our employees and the communities we serve;
  • Seeking Reasonable Accommodations not only for disabilities or handicaps under the Americans with Disabilities Act, but also for sincerely held Religious Observances and to assist employees who are Victims of Domestic, Violence/Sexual Assault;
  • Providing robust Internal Job Posting, Internal Promotion and Professional Development programs to create exciting and rewarding career paths for our employees;
  • Hiring Interns, seasonal and temporary Employees to provide first-time or flexible employment opportunities;
  • Providing alternative work arrangements (telecommuting, flextime, reduced schedule) when necessary, to meet emergency personal needs or achieve a balance between family demands and work responsibilities;
  • Incorporating an expansive definition of “immediate family” into our bereavement, sick, and leave of absence policies that reflect the diversity of our Employees and their familial relationships; and
  • Providing non-traditional paid and unpaid leave to Employees who are victims of crime, including those of sexual or domestic violence, who must take time off to participate in legal proceedings, reflecting the focus of our agency’s
    community programs.

The development of an effective Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program is an evolutionary, exciting and at times challenging process on an individual and agency level. We invite, and indeed, expect, all of our employees to participate in and contribute to the development of our empowered, inclusive, and engaging work environment.
